Perched along the pristine Western Australian coastline in the beach-side suburb of Scarborough is day spa and skin clinic, Serene Day Spa. Serene in every sense of the word, a dedicated team of dermal and beauty therapists offers the latest spa technologies, innovative skincare and luxurious spa treatments in the most tranquil of settings.

I arrive at Serene Day Spa on a hot Perth summer’s day and gratefully enter the cool and stylishly appointed reception space. Serene Day Spa is, well, just that, serene. Floor to ceiling windows allow the beautiful, contemporary space to be flooded with natural light and designer armchairs and sofas in shades of grey fill the lounge where clients sip herbal tea.
My therapist, Leah, collects me and we discuss my skin and concerns I have. I tell her about my recent battle with acne (which still rears its ugly head every so often) and point out various patches of pigmentation that have enjoyed a little too much sun this summer. Keep the blemishes at bay and brighten the skin is her brief, and boy, does she deliver!

Upon deciding on the best course of action (an Ultraceuticals A-Zyme Peel and Microdermabrasion), I am led down a dimly lit corridor to my treatment room where a plush bed, calming music and a complete state of relaxation awaits me.
Leah starts with a beautiful double cleanse with Ultraceuticals Ultra Balancing Gel Cleanser to prep my skin before commencing the microdermabrasion. The purpose of this is to advance the effects of the peel, allowing it to penetrate deeper into the skin.
Following this is the A-Zyme peel, which Leah explains is perfect for my skin condition. It combines fast acting, potent ingredients Retinol and Bromelain to refresh, hydrate and plump the skin. It’s perfect for those with acne and congestion complaints as it works to manage the skin’s oil levels and reduce the buildup of dead skin cells. Plus, it brightens the complexion, meaning my pigmentation is covered, literally.

As Leah massages the solution into my skin I notice a fairly distinct aroma ( strong but not unpleasant) and a light prickly feeling all over. This subsides quickly as Leah starts to infuse the peel using the Ultraceuticals Sonophoresis, which allows the enzymes to deeply penetrate and work their magic on my skin.
After another gentle cleanse, my skin is then infused with a mix of Ultraceuticals – Vitamins B2 and C and a nourishing Ultraceuticals Red Action Moisturizer and Protective Daily Moisturiser SPF 50+ are applied. My treatment is completed with a sublime neck and shoulder massage that manages to melt away any remaining tension I was carrying.

After I reluctantly peel myself up off the bed, I meet Leah at reception where I have prescribed a strict homecare regime and am sent home with a range of Ultraceuticals products to help with skin rejuvenation. For the first few days, I notice slight peeling around my chin and mouth, which then moves to my nose and forehead. This completely clears by day 5 and my skin is visibly brighter, clearer with a noticeable glow. And although there isn’t much need for it, makeup is sitting beautifully on my skin.

I never knew it was possible to achieve such great skin results in a day spa setting. I think I may have found my new go to…
